Welcome to Alabama’s Rural Health Recruitment and Retention website. In 2007, our agency began a free recruitment assistance service for rural and underserved communities in Alabama. Since that time, over 45 primary care professionals have been assisted with placements in rural Alabama. Many are participating in the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program. And, no placement fees are ever charged for this service.
New Recruitment Methodology
We are currently transitioning to a new recruitment methodology, which we anticipate will be an easier process for all involved. Our office is the steward for the Alabama page of 3RNet.org, which is a national, rural recruitment site, and we plan on greater utilization of the services offered through 3RNet.
Recruitment referrals are temporarily suspended while we transition to the new process. We apologize for any inconvenience and regular recruitment activity should resume in January 2015.
Approximately 44% of all Alabama residents live in rural areas. Most of these rural areas are considered health professional shortage areas. Our mission is to improve access to health care providers for residents in these underserved rural communities. The Office of Primary Care and Rural Health is responding to the critical shortage of health care providers in rural Alabama by creating a free medical placement service within our office. Our medical placement staff is here to assist communities in the recruitment of primary care physicians, dentists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
