Rural Health Recruitment and Retention Pages

Welcome to Alabama’s Rural Health Recruitment and Retention website. In 2007, our agency began a free recruitment assistance service for rural and underserved communities in Alabama. No placement fees are ever charged for this service.

We encourage rural communities and facilities that are looking to place a health care provider to complete the opportunity entry form. Health care professionals including physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and mental health professionals are welcome to complete a candidate interview form. Through our free medical placement services, we focus on helping candidates and their families locate a practice site that best fits their needs.

Mission

Approximately 44% of all Alabama residents live in rural areas. Most of these rural areas are considered health professional shortage areas. Our mission is to improve access to health care providers for residents in these underserved rural communities. The Office of Primary Care and Rural Health is responding to the critical shortage of health care providers in rural Alabama by creating a free medical placement service within our office. Our medical placement staff is here to assist communities in the recruitment of primary care physicians, dentists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

We also offer support services to health care professionals interested in practicing in rural Alabama. We are happy to work with residents and medical students as they begin considering their employment options.
