Accidents

Number Three Leading Cause of Death for Men in Alabama

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of fatal accidental deaths in men. Death rates from accidental causes are nearly three times higher for men than women. Men are less likely to wear a seatbelt and obey the speed limit, as well as, drive recklessly and under the influence of alcohol or other substances.Younger men are more prone to accidents due to inexperience and a likelihood of engaging in high-risk behaviors.

Men are the majority in some of the most dangerous occupations and account for nearly 92% of all workplace fatalities. Men are more frequently exposed to poisonous substances, dangerous machinery, and hazardous working environments, increasing the risk of sustaining injuries.
