Since 1918, the Madison County Health Department has been working in the city and county to protect and improve the health of area residents, as well as to ensure a healthy environment in which to live.

The Alabama Department of Public Health employs public environmentalists, health educators, nurses, and nutritionists to provide health care to individuals, children, families, schools, and communities in Madison County.
