Education and Testing
Important Testing Information
Please note the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Examination Materials (NREMT) have been updated, as of January 1, 2007, to reflect the 2005 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
National Registry Exams
NREMT has phased out the written version of their certification exam. All exams are administered by Pearson Virtual University Enterprises testing centers. Please visit the NREMT for more info.
All NREMT Practicals will continue to be administered through state approved EMT training programs. Please submit questions or comments about Alabama EMT testing to the Office of EMS.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Field Courses
EMR and EMT field courses are now available. If you would like to host a course, you will need to contact your regional office. The educational infrastructure for instructor qualifications and other information regarding the courses is available online.
Important Notice Regarding Changes

Air Ambulance Communications
As of January 1, 2013, the Very High Frequency (VHF) for communications between air ambulances and ground crews will move to 155.3475. This change was made due to the high volume of traffic on the previous frequency. Additionally, the Alabama Forestry Commission has designated an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) 453.750 for those agencies with UHF radios to conduct Air Ambulance communications and landing zone coordination.
Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Instructor Class
