Program faculty will provide information to educate case management staff on using the best practices for accurate and timely coding of their time and activities. This program is required for all Alabama Department of Public Health case management staff who code any of their time in the SSR system.

Pharmacology Update: Drug-Drug and Drug-Herbal Interactions of Oral Contraceptives and Seizure Medications

Drug-drug and drug-herbal interactions have the potential to decrease the effectiveness of a medication, increase the action of a medication or cause adverse effects, all of which could result in harm to the patient. Program faculty will provide information that will help identify interactions of the most commonly prescribed oral contraceptives and seizure medications.

Treating the Tobacco Dependent Patient: Interventions That Work

Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Evidence-based, brief interventions exist to help tobacco users quit and research indicates they are more likely to do so when their healthcare provider recommends it. Program faculty will discuss these evidence-based brief interventions and resources including the Alabama Tobacco Quitline, Plan First and Medicaid cessation benefits, to help patients quit tobacco.
