Legislative Directions to Enhance the Public's Health
Broadcast Date: July 25, 2006 (1 hour, 15 minutes)
Program Overview
Senator Harkin has served as a Representative and Senator since 1975. He has been an advocate for effective health promotion and disease prevention programs, and an advocate for people with disabilities throughout his career. Senator Harkin will discuss national legislation and federal appropriations impacting national, state and local resources and priorities.
Healthy America: Wellness Where We Live, Work and Learn, is an initiative of the National Governors Association (NGA) implemented by NGA Chairman Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to raise national awareness about the urgent need for all Americans--children, teenagers, adults and seniors--to live healthier, more active lives. Through the Executive Branch of State government, each governor has oversight and management responsibilities for all state and most federal programs targeting health promotion and disease prevention. The Healthy America Initiative of the National Governors Association presents a major opportunity to improve the health of all citizens. Healthy Arkansas promotes community partnerships to make healthy living a community goal, not just a personal one.
